Snowy Day Update

Hello Readers! It snowed a few inches here yesterday, and it has been snowing on and off all day today as well!

We have been busy working on orders lately. Not too much other exciting stuff going on. (Except our giveaway – which you can check out here!)
We recently finished the third of four 1,000 foot packs for order #9578. One more to go!

We finished the first 900 square feet of 2,200 square feet of Weatherboard for order #9603.

We also finished sawing Oak for order #9647 for 1,200 square feet of Rustic Oak. Our Rustic Oak is comparable to our Weatherboard in look, but is a much harder wood.

Today’s featured antique are strap hinges! They are $2 per inch per pair and vary from 6″ to 84″ long.

We hope you all are having a fabulous January 22nd!

End of the Year Update!

Hello  Readers!
We hope that you had a fantastic Christmas filled with lots of love, friends, and family! We definitely did. In fact, we have our last Christmas get-together tonight (with Sylvan’s side of the family)! We are then running away to our cabin tomorrow! Since we will be there, we can’t be here, so just a reminder that we will be closed Thursday-Sunday this week.
Now on to some orders and happening updates!

These Oak beams were a part of a barn in Manheim, PA. Unfortunately, the barn was in a fire last month. The fire was contained enough that many of the beams are still solid. We’ve begun sawing them for both order #9635 and #9647.
All 10″ boards

Dog Not Included!
The third of four packs for order #9578 is coming along nicely and quickly!

We have also been cleaning barn siding for all 3 of our big Weatherboard orders. More arriving today that will be lathed out and stuck in the drying room. We will begin cleaning it next year! 😉

Beams for fire place mantles have been really popular lately. We recently sorted through our mantle pile. We disposed of the rotten logs and re-stacked them all. They are all ready for you to come and pick one out! Also, if you are looking for something unique and with a lot of character check out  four historic mantles that we have. They were designed to direct the smoke from the fire toward and out the chimney.
And lastly…
Again… Dog Not Included

Did you know we have old stepping/sand stones?!? We also are slowly acquiring more radiators. Make sure to come stop by and check out our growing collection of antiques and collectables!
Well folks… that is all!
Thank you so much for your support through 2014! We appreciate it more than you know!

Merry (Almost) Christmas!

This year for Christmas we got ourselves new signs!

Hopefully this will help everyone be able to find us, and direct them where to go. It also advertises our new antiques loft!
Also, with the holidays right around the corner, remember that our hours will be a little different this week and next.
We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! Remember to take time and remember the real meaning and reason behind Christmas and the magnitude that it brings with it.
This is my favorite “manger” pictures. I think it depicts Jesus’ birth so well.

Lots of Weatherboard & Some Christmas Things

Hello readers! It is Weatherboard week! We have a lot to update you on today, as well as some last minute Christmas presents. (Can you believe that Santa is coming in ONE week?!)

So far this week, we have already made over 1,000 square feet of flooring (and that was at lunch – more has been made since!) This week we have been working on order #9352 for 910 square feet of Weathboard.

We have also made 500 square feet of all 10″ Weatherboard for order #9578. Which is an order for a total of 3,865 square feet.

All 10″ boards!
Tyler also made and finished an island counter-top for order #9624. It is looking gorgeous!

I would love this counter-top in my home!

We are also lathing out barn siding that we just got. It will go into the drying room for 10 days and then be made into our Weatherboard flooring.
This is what your Weatherboard flooring looks like before we make it into the beautiful flooring that you know and love!
Okay, next up… Last minute Christmas presents. If you are like me, you still have a few people left on your shopping list. Know someone that loves woodworking and/or antiques? This antique drill bit set would make the perfect gift. It is from 1855. How neat!?
The drill set has three different layers of different size bits.

I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of young babies and children on my Christmas list. These growth charts would make the perfect present. The best part about them is that you don’t have to leave them behind if you ever move, nor do you have to break up a wall to get it out. It is a gift that will be treasured by them for their whole life.
Yes, I realize one of the charts is faulty. Don’t worry we won’t sell that one to you!
And just to leave you with one last Christmasy thing… last Friday we held our annual Sylvan Brandt Christmas Party to celebrate yet another year of God’s blessing in our business. This year we celebrated with a delicious meal at Fiorentino’s! Our team from left to right is Tyler Hollinger (Flooring Production Technician, wanna-be-carpenter), Kaddie Hollinger (Office Assistant), Dean Brandt (Owner, best boss ever), Dorene Brandt (Wife of Dean, Delivery Driver), Genna Antes (Office Manager), Jordan Slagle (Metal Extraction Specialist). From our family to yours, Have A Holly Jolly Christmas!!!

Weekend & Order Update

Well friends, we got all ready for Saturday and were so excited to see a whole bunch of people. The refreshments and free cookies were ready to go. We decorated and we cleaned. But then it rained. And rained. And rained. And not a single soul came out to get their free family photos.
And that is totally okay because even though it was pouring we still sold 5 trees! We would have sold 2 more, but our pickin’s got slim.  (Don’t worry we are restocked and ready to sell you a tree!) And what is even better is that our families got 4 hours alone with a photographer! It was heavenly really.
Seriously, how cute?! And I’m not even going to show you the cutest pictures. They are all saved for Christmas cards!
So readers, you may have missed some awesome photos for free, but there is still time to get a tree 😉 Only 16 days until Christmas!
Okay, so besides bombarding you with free family photo information and tree sales, we have actually been pretty busy down at the mill. So it is time for a couple order updates!
First up – We have been working really hard (okay by “we” I really mean Dean and Tyler) on getting order #9621 for 550 square feet of our Narrow Oak finished this week. As of the end of today, this order is complete and ready to be picked up!

Today, Tyler has also been working on a tabletop for order #9622. It is really coming along nicely!
If you act quick, there is still time for you to order a table or bar top and get it in time for Christmas!
So there you have it folks! Remember… 16 days 😉

December News!

Hello all!
Seriously, how can it be December already?! I am pretty sure I just celebrated Christmas like 3 months ago. How did 9 other months sneak in there?
Just like November, we spend the whole first half of December planning and preparing for the second half, or more specifically the last week of the month. We want to keep you in the loop about what is going on around here at Sylvan Brandt this month – especially because a lot of it is really exciting!

Tree sales started last week and we are off to a great start! Thank you to everyone who has come out and bought a tree so far! We really appreciate it! Tree sales will continue throughout the month.

This year we are also doing something extra special to thank the families that support our small family business. This Saturday, December 6th we are hosting Sarah Gehman Photography and offering FREE family photos. No need to buy a tree. These photos are to thank you for your support – although there will be trees for sale and it would be super cool if you bought one 😉 Check out our FAQ here.
C really loves our Christmas tree!
Our family is very thankful for December. It is the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus! It is so easy to get caught up in the commercial side of the holiday and forget the true reason for the season. Every December, after Christmas, we run away to our favorite place, the mountains, and take some time to refocus, refresh, and relax.
Along with our cabin trip in December, we are closed for Christmas and New Years. Due to everything going on in the month our hours and days open will be changed as noted below:
We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause and appreciate your understanding.
So, there is December at Sylvan Brandt in a nutshell. Keep checking back for more info and other cool stuff 🙂
